The International 2017: Day 6 Round Up

13 August 2017 15:09

LGD.ForeverYoung would take on Team Liquid to begin finals day in the LB, then later on the winner would play Newbee in the best-of-5 grand final for the title of International 2017 winner and over $10million in prize money.

LGD.ForeverYoung vs Team Liquid

Both LGD.ForeverYoung and Team Liquid had had a messy main event. LGD looked strong in their first two rounds against TNC Pro Team and Virtus.Pro, but falling to Newbee in the UB finals was a cagey affair in a match up they should have won. Team Liquid fell at the first hurdle in the UB, but had battled their way through four stages of the elimination LB.

The round started with a great match for the spectators lasting 57 minutes. ‘Super’ and ‘Monet’ began where they left off yesterday, carrying LGD to a victory with their 588 and 556 XP/Min respectively and over 25 kills between them. ‘Gh’ had a round to forget for Team Liquid, posting no kills to his 11 deaths. Facing a win or go home situation, ‘Miracle-‘ took on the challenge for Team Liquid and put in a fantastic solo performance, evening up the overall match score at 1-1 and giving the fans a winner takes all third game.

Whilst watching the final match you could tell both teams were nervous, as you would be playing for a place in The International 2017 grand final. The final match lasted a solid 48 minutes, with Team Liquid taking the all-important win. ‘Miracle-‘ once again put the team on his back, scoring a 18/5/13 KDA and 603 XP/Min playing as Terrorblade. Team Liquid would therefore advance to the Grand Final against Newbee, whilst LGD.ForeverYoung would have to watch from the stands.

Grand Final- Team Liquid vs Newbee

It all came down to this; a best of five series between Team Liquid and Newbee to crown The International 2017 champion. Their routes to the final were very different, with Newbee sailing through unscathed whilst Team Liquid had had to battle through five potential elimination stages, but both firmly had their eyes set on the same prize.

The final began with a dominant, team performance from Team Liquid to take the lead in just 27 short minutes. ‘MATUMBAMAN’ led the way with 11 kills to just one death and setting the game high end level at 19 with Lifestealer. In the second match, ‘Moogy’ set a ridiculous XP/Min of 822 for the Newbee for 34 minutes, but once again it wasn’t enough after Team Liquid snatched victory behind ‘Miracle-‘ Gold/Min of 878. At 2-0 up, things were looking good for Team Liquid but ominous for Newbee.

It seemed like all day ‘Miracle-‘ had been putting on a Dota 2 clinic, and that did not change in the third match. XP, Gold and Team Net Worth swung backwards and forwards, but in the space of 5 minutes ‘Miracle-‘ completely changed the game and took Team Liquid to the win and a decisive 3-0 overall victory. Up until this year there had never been a clean sweep in The International history.

Team Liquid are your International 2017 champions, taking home over $10million in prize money.
