The International 2017: Day 2 Round Up

9 August 2017 11:53

The International 2017 is well under way now, with two complete days of competition under its belt, and it’s fair to say that the excitement and the tension is beginning to rise, along with the incredible standard of play on offer.

Contrary to Day 1, Day 2 was almost a complete set of sweeps across the board in the best-of-3 series from the two brackets. LGD.Forever Young vs TNC Pro Team kicked off the day’s action, with the two teams coming in with odds of 12/1 and 20/1 respectively to win the overall title at Bet365.

LGD.Forever Young vs TNC Pro Team

The first game was a close battle, lasting just over an hour until LGD took the win,  with teammates ‘Monet’ and ‘Super’ making a combined 19/6/29 KDA as Puck and Terrorblade and taking over 10k Gold. In the second match, LGD were runaway winners in just over half an hour, as ‘Super’ put on another class performance with Faceless Void. ‘Tims’, from TNC Pro Team, had a round to forget after managing just one kill to 19 deaths and 13 assists in both matches combined. TNC will have to gather their thoughts before facing OG Dota2 in the next elimination stage in the LB.

LGD Gaming v Virtus.Pro

The second round of matches put LGD Gaming against Virtus.Pro. Virtus.Pro, direct invitees and joint tournament favourites at 7/2, were runaway winners in this match-up, taking home both wins in less than half an hour. ‘RAMZES666’, playing as Sven and Faceless Void in the two matches was easily the best overall player, posting 4/0/16 and 10/0/8 KDA and an overall combined Gold lead for the round. For LGD Gaming, ‘Victoria?JY’ had a round to forget, posting just one kill and failing to get over 1000 Gold for the two matches combined.

Team Liquid v Team Secret

The next two rounds kicked off the best-of-3 matchups for the LB, with Team Liquid taking on Team Secret. Team Liquid had a poor Day One, and that run continued when they lost the first match in less than 30 minutes. ‘MidOne’ put on a clinic for Team Secret, posting 8/0/15 with 5095 Gold and 164 last hits, embarrassing the other team in the Solo middle.

It looked like Team Liquid were done for, until they rallied together and pulled off two strong wins in a row, both lasting just over half an hour. ‘MinD_ContRol’ schooled the second match with 3/3/10 and a game high 3465 gold, then in the winner-takes-all third match, all five players Miracle-, MinD_ContRol, KuroKy, Gh and MATUMBAMAN put in a really strong all-round team performance to take Team Liquid through to the LB Round 3. Team Secret, sadly, will be heading home.

Team Empire v Evil Geniuses

Team Empire, who perhaps took a surprising win yesterday against Cloud9, had to face the joint tournament favourites Evil Geniuses in the LB round 2. Could they repeat their form from yesterday and keep their story going?

The first match was an absolute blinder, lasting just 17 seconds over an hour. Team Empire took the spoils, with ‘fn’ showing his class as Ember Spirit and posting a ridiculous 18/1/18 KDA with 8319 Gold and 707 hits, unsurprisingly all of which were game highs. He didn’t stop there either, taking Team Empire to a clean sweep and onto the next round with a follow-up 13/3/9 and 5739 Gold, both of which were game highs again. The clean sweep takes Team Empire onwards and upwards, with Evil Geniuses crashing out after starting as 7/2 joint favourites to win the tournament.

Wednesday 9th sees the action take another step up. In the UB is Invictus Gaming vs Newbee and LGD.Forever Young vs Virtus.Pro for a spot in the UB finals, whilst TNC Pro Team take on OG Dota2 and LGD-Gaming play Digital Chaos in the LB bracket, with the losers heading home. Can’t wait? Read all about it here tomorrow!
