Fortnite Season 5 - Worlds Collide

12 July 2018 16:15

Epic games have continued to expand on their unbelievably popular Fortnite game. The 100-player Battle Royale game now enters its fifth ten-week season and has changed more than in any other update. The theme for the changes started with a one-time event on the 30th July which saw a rocket launch from a secret base, and cause rifts in the sky. Now, everything is different, and worlds are colliding.

Fortnite Season 5 changes

The first of the changes, and by far the most noticeable on the map is that Moisty Mire has now completely disappeared. Replacing it is a large stretch of desert, going as far as Fatal Fields to the west and as far north as the Mansion. The desert stretch is a western themed outpost and brings with it a bunch of new mountains and one major new location; Paradise Palms.

The other notable changes to the map come in the form of a new Viking base just north east of Greasy Grove, in the same location where the rocket was launched from in Season 4. This base is atop a mountain and features a Viking longboat on the edge of a large waterfall. Anarchy Acres, a long-underused location, has now been transformed into Lazy Links, which is a country retreat style house complete with swimming pool and tennis courts.

There have also been some gameplay changes made. For example, those rifts that appeared back in Season 4 are now wormholes that you can jump in and be ejected to another part of the map from! There are also 4-person golf carts (The ATK – All Terrain Kart) so you and the rest of your squad can roll around the map in style and work together to mount on objects. This is a continuation from the two player shopping carts introduced in Season 4.

Lastly, and in keeping with the “Worlds Collide” theme, there are now ancient artefacts littered around the map, like an Easter island heads north of Dusty Divot. Which, by the way, is now covered in trees and totally overgrown!

Season 5 Battle pass

Of course, with the new season comes a new battle pass. For those of you unfamiliar, the battle pass is a range of challenges that unlock new skins and different items as you progress through the XP levels. The battle pass has not changed in price and still costs 950 v-bucks (roughly $10, or £8), but with this you unlock two skins immediately, a couple of emotes, and even get 100 of those v-bucks back.

Another new and exciting part of the battle pass is the ability to play basketball and golf with your friends. Why exactly this has been added is unclear, but it is still a cool addition to the game.

Undoubtedly more will be changed as the season progresses, but this launch has been the most exciting to date. Hands up if you can’t wait to see what Epic Games do next?
