Call of Duty World League Sydney Open II Preview

The Call of Duty World League (CWL) Sydney Open II will see up to 64 teams battle it out for a prize pool of AU$30,000 this weekend.

Hosted by the ESL Gaming Network and presented by PlayStation 4, the tournament will be held at the ESL Australia Studio from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th May, and is open to all teams with members aged 18 and over in the Asia-Pacific region. The teams will compete in ‘4 v 4’ battles playing Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, with the overall winners awarded 10,000 CWL Pro Points per player as well as a AU$14,000 share of the prize pool.

With tickets priced between AU$15-AU$25, the three-day event is set to be played in front of a packed audience of gaming enthusiasts, and the action will include a Best-of-5 Open Bracket, Pool Play and a Best-of-5 Championship Bracket.

The CWL Sydney Open I was held in March, which saw Mindfreak beat Tainted Minds 3-2 in the grand final to take home $14,000 and 10,000 Pro Points.

The pools for this weekend are:

  • Pool A: Mindfreak, Regicide, Era of Apotheon and Open Bracket #4
  • Pool B: Tainted Minds, Empyre eSports, Validate, Open Bracket #3
  • Pool C: Validate Brothas, Oracle eSports Club, Crooked, Open Bracket #2
  • Pool D: SYF Gaming, Rage eSports, Senix, Open Bracket #1

The AU$30,000 prize pool for CWL Sydney Open II will be distributed as follows:

  • 1st place: AU$14,000
  • 2nd: AU$7,000
  • 3rd: AU$4,000
  • 4th: AU$2,000
  • 5th: AU$1,000
  • 6th: AU$1,000
  • 7th: AU$500
  • 8th: AU$500

The points distribution is:

  • 1st: 10,000 Pro Points
  • 2nd: 6,000 Pro Points
  • 3rd: 4,400 Pro Points
  • 4th: 3,600 Pro Points
  • 5th-6th: 3,200 Pro Points
  • 7th-8th: 2,800  Pro Points
  • 9th-12th: 2,200 Pro Points
  • 13th-16th: 1,800 Pro Points
  • 17th-20th: 1,200 Pro Points
  • 21st-24th: 1,100 Pro Points
  • 25th-28th: 900 Pro Points
  • 29th-36th: 700 Pro Points
