League of Legends Betting

League of Legends is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game, which has exploded in popularity since its initial release in 2009, where teams of champions battle each other across sprawling virtual landscapes. Riot Games, the developers of LoL, estimates it has more than 100 million active players each month, with almost five percent of the entire population of Taiwan thought to play regularly.

Combining different elements of skill and strategy, each LoL match is a five-on-five contest where the primary goal of a team is to destroy the oppositionÂ’s nexus, but it is how they go about achieving this and the intricacies of the game that keep players and fans gripped.

The supreme ability of the best players has created a competitive scene enjoyed by LoL enthusiasts all over the world. As the game has grown, so have the number of tournaments, and there are a series of continental match-ups throughout the year, including a league in North America in which players represent their college. The online streaming for LoL is off the charts, with the World Championships regularly having over 100million people watching a single match at once.

The betting markets on LoL were previously very limited and only really gave punters the chance to wager on the overall winner of a match or tournament or on a best of three/five/seven games. However, there are more opportunities nowadays for fans to bet on specific aspects such as which team will slay the first dragon, which team will score the most kills and which team will destroy the first tower.

Because of the added opportunities, LoL has become easily the biggest eSport in the world for betting on, with all the major bookmakers offering regular odds on tournaments both big and small. Betway and William Hill offer the most diverse markets for all your special bets.

The jewel in the crown of League of Legends tournaments is the World Championship, which takes place annually and brings together the best squads from all over the globe in a fitting climax to the season.

The 2017 World Championship took place in China, with the grand finals being held at the Beijing Natioinal Stadium in front of 80,000 live fans and millions watching world wide. There were 16 teams in the final event, drawn from the main qualifying regions of South Korea, China, Europe, North America and Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macau, plus a series of wildcard entrants.

Samsung Galaxy were crowned 2017 World Champions after defeating SK Telecom T1 3-0 in the Grand Final on Saturday 4th November. The all-Korean final was a repeat of the 2016 final which was won by SK Telecom T1. SSG also beat the pre-tournament favourites Longzhu Gaming in the quarter-finals 3-0, so officially swept both of the top ranked teams in the world at one tournament.

As well as the World Championship, there are a number of other big tournaments throughout the year, including the NA and EU LCS, the League of Legends Pro League (LPL) in China and the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK).
